I’m not much of a freelancer. Instead, I just try to take on projects that don’t feel like work. These mostly end up being for friends and family, but I manage expectations up front to ensure it’s something I stay fully invested in. It’s flexibility and passion on my own terms, but great practice all the same.
For example, I designed a custom itinerary for my own honeymoon. It was overkill, sure—we didn’t end up consulting it much. But the process was a great review of all our pre-trip research, and made for a handy “FYI” document to send to family. I had one page for each city (12) on a three week trip, complete with travel times, operating hours, phone numbers, and more.
